Westin - Market Street

San Francisco Hotel Review

 Westin San Francisco Market Street

The Westin - Market Street is consistently one of sfTravel's most reserved hotels in San Francisco and we recommend it highly based on service, value, and our readers' experiences.  The Westin - Market Street Hotel is a modern, stylish hotel located between San Francisco's Financial District and Union Square with awesome views from most of the rooms.  This hotel's great location near Moscone Center conventions, stunning views, and relative lack of chaos as compared with Union Square hotel's makes it a great choice for business travelers and vacationers.

50 Third Street @ Market - Right Across from San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (MOMA)

While hotel prices fluctuate rapidly-- for July 15-22, 2006-- prices quoted ranged from $235 - $370 with a median price quote of $250.

The Westin - Market Street Hotel is a beautiful hotel with a chic yet intimate atmosphere, right in the heart of downtown San Francisco.  The lobby is furnished with striking black and white marble flooring, woodwork accented by gold leaf domes, and original artwork.  The hotel boasts metropolitan elegance, and sophisticated, stylish, and clean décor.  Although located in the center of busy San Francisco, it is slightly set back from the street, and you can't hear much outside noise.  A very personable staff is close at hand, and even when the hotel is busy, guests are well taken care of.  The Westin - Market Street Hotel definitely stands out because of its outstanding guest service and comfortable atmosphere.  While other luxury hotels can be intimidating, the Westin - Market Street is unique because of its intimate and easy atmosphere.  With a comfortable ambiance, a helpful staff, and beautiful views, it provides a friendly, personalized, and scenic vacation to San Francisco.

The Westin - Market Street Hotel offers all the services expected of a four-star luxury hotel.  It features 667 rooms and 26 suites, all with floor-to-ceiling windows with breathtaking views of San Francisco and the Bay.  It provides a full-size lighted desk and three phones in every room, each of which is furnished with beautiful, custom-designed décor.  Their business office is open Monday - Friday, 7 AM - 6 PM, and high speed internet is available on upper floors for an extra fee.  Valet service is available, as are shuttles to the airport.  The hotel has a spa, fitness club, and massage services, and if the hotel's gym is not enough for the guests, they can access a nearby health club for a small fee.

The Westin - Market Street Hotel boasts Jester's, a jazz-inspired restaurant that offers American food accented with French flavor that both guests and locals enjoy.  Next to Jester's is Jester's Lounge, a swanky martini lounge with plush chairs and a wood-burning fireplace.  It is also close to hundreds of other restaurants, from the Yerba Buena Garden Arts district to Chinatown.  The Westin - Market Street Hotel is one of the closest downtown hotels to the San Francisco Airport - only 30 minutes away - and is only 45 minutes from the Oakland Airport.  Staff is always available to give personal help to visitors, and the hotel provides fliers, brochures, and suggestions to help guests plan out their days and evenings and explore San Francisco.

The Westin - Market Street Hotel is ideal for both businessmen and active tourists alike.  It offers many different travel packages for each type of traveler and vacation - family, bed and breakfast, business, honeymoon, etc.  Its location makes it easy for guests to explore downtown San Francisco on foot, and the hotel staff is readily available to help with suggestions and listings of events and restaurants.  Unlike other luxury hotels in the area, unless you are there for a convention, there is not much to do in the hotel itself, so guests should plan on getting out and traveling around San Francisco during the day.  The Westin - Market Street Hotel is ideal for the active tourist because it is located directly in the heart of downtown San Francisco in between Union Square and the Financial District.

Nearby Attractions:

It is within walking distance of the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, Yerba Buena Gardens and Center for the Performing Arts, the Moscone Convention Center, SBC Park, the Sony Metreon, Zeum, and an Ice Skating and Bowling Center.  Nearby are also Fisherman's Wharf, Chinatown, and Pac Bell Park.  Union Square is famous for the amazing shopping it offers, with stores such as BCBG, Saks 5th Avenue, Neiman Marcus, and Niketown.  Its location is ideal because it is not directly in Union Square, so guests can escape that chaos, but it is still only blocks away from tons of events and other attractions.  The hotel is also close to a BART station and the famous Cable Cars, making it easy to explore all of San Francisco.

Reader Experiences:

Barney writes, "...We stayed at the Westin - Market Street Hotel in March and had a great experience. We enjoyed a discounted internet package which included a deluxe room on the 20th floor with a great view, free valet parking, and a free gas card. The rooms are great - very comfortable with a big king size bed and down comforter. The bathrooms have massage showerheads and Gilchrist and Soames bath products - soap, shampoo, conditioner, lotion, and mouthwash. The concierge recommended a nice (but pricey) sushi restaurant. At the restaurant, we were surprised with a complementary appetizer, courtesy of our hotel concierge! My only minor complaint - the down pillows were very small (especially for a king size bed) and pretty flat. I've stayed at other four star hotels (like Le Parker Meridien in Manhattan) and their pillows were top quality, which is what I expected of the pillows at the Westin - Market Street."

Iliana writes, "...Based on sfTravel's recommendation, I spent five days at the Westin - Market Street Hotel.   I loved this chic but discreet hotel, with great taste in decor and also very good views of San Francisco.  The service was wonderful, everybody was very nice, and I got a great rate even though it was New Years Eve. I highly recommend this hotel and sfTravel for making discount reservations and finding the best places to stay in San Francisco."
