75 Mile Drive in Mendocino County

75 Mile Drive: Cloverdale (Sonoma County) To Fort Bragg (Mendocino County)

As you begin your commemorative journey from the iconic Golden Gate Bridge, continue north on Highway 101 to Cloverdale. From there take Highway 128 WEST toward the Mendocino Coast. You will drive through vineyards, orchards and redwoods. Stop midway in the small town of Boonville for some food and wine/beer tasting. Once on the coast, turn north (right) on Highway 1 and continue on to Fort Bragg.

Itinerary options:

Wine tasting at Goldeneye on Highway 128 at Philo, 5 miles west of Boonville. (goldeneyewinery.com – 707-895-3202). This is one of the top producers of famous Anderson Valley Pinot Noir and is owned by the Duckhorn Group based in Napa. They are offering a discount on their tasting fee.  Sample their wine in a spectacular setting for only $7.50 when you mention this special. 

Kayaking with Liquid Fusion at the Noyo River in Fort Bragg. (liquidfusionkayak.com – 707-962-1623) The Noyo Meander, a one and a half hour guided mellow eco-kayak tour of this serene river for two, is only $75. 

There are two lodging options. Stay at the comfortable Harbor Lite Lodge (harborlitelodge.com– 707-964-0221) overlooking the Noyo River in Fort Bragg for the discounted rate of $75 plus tax. Some restrictions apply and advance reservations required.
Also at the 75 mile point of the drive is the North Cliff Hotel in Fort Bragg.  Stay here for $75 per person, double occupancy. (northcliffhotel.net – 707-962-2500). Top Floor Hot Tub rooms are 7.50 per person extra. 

Dine at the creative Mendo Bistro on the top floor of the Company Store on Main St. in Fort Bragg. (mendobistro.com – 707-964-4974). A complete dinner for two is only $75, tax, gratuity and alcohol not included. 
The Cliff House, with the best Noyo River view in town, is also offering a special $75 dinner for two which includes a bottle of wonderful Mendocino County wine, an appetizer to share, 2 entrees and a dessert to share. Tax and gratuity not included. (fortbraggcliffhouse.com – 707-961-0255). 

While in Fort Bragg, stay an extra day, and ride the world famous historic Skunk Train. (skunktrain.com  – 707-964-6371) Take the 4 hour journey from the depot at the Foot of Laurel St. to the Northspur logging camp and back and pay only $75 for two adult tickets.  A savings of over 20%!  This price does not include lunch or beverages which are available for purchase. Advance reservations required. Trains depart daily at 10 am until October 1st.

After your nostalgia day on the train, walk the short distance to the Weller House, the most elegant B & B in Fort Bragg (wellerhouse.com – 707-964-4415). They are offering their Victorian Oriental Room on the second floor with a queen bed and a large claw foot tub for $75 per person plus tax. A full breakfast is included. If you are there on Tuesday night stop in for a free tango lesson in their redwood ballroom.
