Three Reasons to Take a Walking Tour With San Francisco City Guides
City Guides, a non-profit organization that caters to hosting weekly and monthly walking tours in San Francisco, has been around for more than 35 years. Dependent on donations and some funding from the City and sponsors, local volunteer guides host up to 30 tours a month creating a walking tour for everyone!
The tour guides have a vision of what they want others to see and experience when they’re on the tours. Supporting SF City Guides allows their visions and ideas to come to life. Come discover San Francisco with guides that know and love the city’s history and architecture. Also, keep an eye out for rare and special walking tours that are only done twice a year in May and October, such as West Side Whimsy Walk.
How? City Guides provides this service to the public for free thanks to dedicated volunteers and committed sponsors. The majority of their operation is supported by voluntary donations by our tour guests and sponsors. In addition, they receive some financial support from Grants for the Arts of the San Francisco Hotel Tax Fund and other organizations.
Keep in mind that San Francisco is made up of many hills. Although these tours are not meant to be strenuous, wearing comfortable shoes and layers is advised.
Remember: The tour guides hosts these tours because they are passionate about San Francisco. Donations are not taken as tips but rather placed in an envelope and used to help SF City Guides to keep running. Don’t wait; go on their website now to find out more about how you can take a walking tour with City Guides.
