Best Breakfasts & Brunches
San
Francisco Style

The Ramp has great views..
Bay Watch - their slogan "Good
Food... Good Service..." and they mean it.
Chris writes in
August 2001, "We also read about the Baywatch restaurant on your
site. This was by far the best place we ate at while in San Francisco. The food was great
and the prices were very reasonable. The omelets are unreal! "
Bay Watch is a simple, plain
restaurant with excellent food and excellent service. Bay Watch mainly serves the
best breakfasts in town, right in the middle of the Marina. Located on a very
busy Lombard Street, expect to wait a while but enjoy a great, free coffee while you enjoy
the outdoor sunshine. This is a restaurant that truly prides itself on great service
and delivers it. Oh, and the food is wonderful too. Choose from awesome
omelettes, skillet breakfasts, frittatas, egg plates, gourmet pancakes, or waffles.
Expect to get more than you bargained for-- the omelettes are out of this world.
Pancakes come with different berries and there are a number of healthy entrees if that is
what you choose. Basically, Bay Watch is a place that kicks butt on the chains like
Dennys and IHOP-- in fact, they blow them away. I enjoyed the "Acapuloc
Express" ($6.75) omelette with chorizo, avocado, green chilies, and onions with
melted cheese, source cream, chives, and salsa-- Ole! Great service, great food,
breakfast as a specialty-- Bay Watch is the best place to enjoy that morning you called in
sick to work! Expect to spend around $10 per person total including drinks, tip, and
tax.

The Ramp
The prices are high, the food is o.k., but the views are AWESOME. The Ramp is a boat-ramp
in an industrial section of San Francisco. The patio features a wide open view of the bay.
It's a really cool place just to lounge and have some drinks and breakfast. No-one here is
in a rush to get anywhere. And it's close to shopping at the Esprit Outlet. Highly
recommended for views and relaxing with an AndyRating of "A-". Make sure to find
this confusing location on a map before driving to this obscure part of SF. Plan on
spending about $13 per person.
855 China Basin 621-2378
Home Plate
A small place in the Marina District
with great food and long lines. The breakfasts are excellent and people in this
neighborhood know it. The scones and jam are particularly excellent and the hash-browns
are to die for. Plan on spending about $8 per person. AndyRating is a solid "A".
2274 Lombard @ Scott 922-4663
Silks at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel
If money is no object, this is your place. Widely known as one of SF's best breakfasts for
business travelers. Located in the Financial
District at an equally awesome hotel. Plan on spending $25+ per person. AndyRating is
a "B" due to high prices. 222 Sansome 986-2020
Crepevine
624 Irving @ Seventh Avenue 681-5858
Crepes are available all day at this great brunch choice. Meal crepes can come with meats,
vegetables, and cheeses. They are also available sweet style with sauces or jams.
Crepevine also has traditional breakfast fare like omelets, eggs, pancakes, etc. All meals
include delicious garlic potatoes. The Sunset
District neighborhood is also chock full of other cafe's and restaurants to check out.
2223
2223 Market @ Sanchez 431-0692
Brunch is excellent at this Castro area
choice popular with gays and straights alike. The food is excellent including sausage
& biscuits and French toast. The service is excellent. 2223's most popular time is
around 1:00 with all the late sleepers. Check it out; it's easy to remember the address...
House of Bagels
Readers write, "House of Bagels on Geary in San Francisco is the BEST
bagels (it is not Noahs, which is not even a real bagel!!)"
5030 Geary Blvd, San Francisco (415) 752-6000
And there's always the cafe's...
