Jazz Clubs

Jazz San Francisco

These are some joints to check out for jazz in San Francisco and Oakland that we enjoy...

Storyville is a quaint club with rising stars in a funky lower Haight neighborhood. It's everything a jazz club should be; and the food is wonderful to boot. The club is currently cozy and quiet, but with a growing clientele.

Yoshi's in Oakland 510-238-9200
G.M. writes in May 1998, "Yoshi's is the place to go for people who want to see first rate jazz. I take visitors and they are never disappointed when they see the professional artists that can't be found for any price in most towns. While not opulent, the atmosphere is rather nice and you may want to dress up a touch. Some tips: tickets often sell out, so call weeks ahead. Arrive when the club first opens -- at Yoshi's they have you write your name on a piece of paper and clip it to the seat of your choice, so you can choose your seat and then go to dinner. Although Yoshi's features it's own sushi restaurant, don't eat there. The atmosphere and food are just OK, not great. Yoshi's is definitely true San Francisco, as opposed to Tourist San Francisco (even if it is across the Bay in Oakland)".
