Official Information / Reservations

A huge Hyatt located near half the broker-dealers, attorneys, and stockbrokers in the Western U.S.  The Hyatt Embarcadero is located in a lauded mixed use retail, office, shopping mall geared primarily for yuppie business people.  Good choice for convenience and service but location and style not the most exciting for your money.

Jim writes in Winter 2001, "Being new to San Francisco for our 25th Wedding Anniversary we did not know what to expect in the way of accommodations in San Francisco. We were told that anywhere in San Francisco proper would be very expensive. But since this was an Anniversary weekend getaway we decided we wanted to stay in the heart of downtown San Francisco.

So our trek began to find that "special hotel" at that "special" price. After looking at many travel websites it was apparent that we would need to decide what area to stay in. Would it be Fisherman's Wharf, the Financial District, Nob Hill or the Embarcadero areas. Would it be a local hotel or a chain. Would it be quaint or just run another cookie cutter room in a large hotel. Our great dilemma was this. Do we trust a professionally written description and a small photo of a local hotel or do we go with a large trusted chain?

After mulling all of our choices we chose the Hyatt at Embarcadero Center. At the stated rate on their website it was much more pricey than we had hoped for but we went ahead and tried to book one of their "online specials" at the Hyatt website. For about 36 hours we tried to book online but there was a problem getting the reservation page to load. We called the toll free number and we were told that "online specials" must be booked "online". They offered to book at a higher rate but we declined. That smelled fishy. We gave up at one point and booked a room with another large luxury chain in San Mateo, south of San Francisco.

As time went on and the day of arrival drew closer we both still wanted to stay downtown in the city of fog so that we could experience the heart of San Francisco. Just few days before departure we were notified of an internet special from Yahoo for hotels in San Francisco and guess what. Our first choice of Hyatt was there after all!

We booked, we flew, we stayed. Enjoyed every minute of it! Great service from everyone in the Hyatt staff. Great food from both the lobby restaurant for breakfast and in the revolving Equinox Restaurant atop the Hyatt. The views at night were great. We even had a full moon rising over the bay while we toasted each other and then enjoyed a wonderful dinner.

Our only problem during our stay was with the cable TV. It must have been on the blink and the channels kept fading in and out. Yep, you are wondering why in the world are you complaining about the TV in a city that has more spectacular views than just about any in the world? Well, guess what the TV turned out to not be a problem after all. We were having so much fun we just flat forgot all about crazy TV.

If you can afford it, we highly recommend San Francisco's Hyatt Regency in the Embarcadero Center. "
