Compass Rose Nightclub
San
Francisco in the 40's.the bygone era of glamour, romance, and of
course, martinis. The Westin St. Francis and The Compass Rose have
brought back the elegant, sophisticated style with the classic sounds
and vintage fashions of Bob Dalpe and The Rose Trio.
Dalpe,
a New York native, has been performing since he was 18. His Rose
Trio consists of veterans, Michael Bluestein (piano), "Jumpin"
Jack Dorsey (drums) and Paul "Slim" Smith (bass). Dalpe
seduces an audience with a mix of swing and jazz that transforms
beautifully into a style reminiscent of a young Bing Crosby and
Frank Sinatra. His repertoire consists largely of the Tin Pan Alley's
greatest, including renditions of classic songs written by Cole
Porter, Gershwin, Rogers and Hart, plus many more. His trendsetting
style includes popular vintage classics that mix the romantic fabrics
of the past with modern day, cosmopolitan chic.
Dalpe
believes many of the hip martini bars have not been able to mix
sophistication with romance like establishments did in the 40's.until
now. The Compass Rose's revival of romance and martinis is what
has brought everyone from "Gen Xers" to "Baby Boomers"
flocking to see him perform and experience the feeling of a "Grand
Bar." One patron summed up the attraction by saying, "This
music transcends beyond the ages. Audiences in their 20's or in
their 70's enjoy the sound and either remember the clothing style
from the 40's or want to emulate it with a vintage 90's twist."
The
beautiful Compass Rose is San Francisco's last grand bar and has
been the rendezvous spot since the St. Francis opened in
1904. The room has made transformations from the ever- fashionable
Patent Leather Bar, The Orchid Room and The Terrace Room before
finally becoming The Compass Rose in 1982. With its exotic elegance
and 40's style romance, it serves as the perfect backdrop to enjoy
caviar, champagne and the City's perfect martini. Bob Dalpe &
The Rose Trio play Tuesday-Thursday, 6-11 p.m. and Friday and Saturday
from 7p.m.-Midnight.
