The
Cow Hollow Inn
San
Francisco Hotel Review

"My wife and I stayed at the Cow Hollow Motor Inn in September.
We were delighted with the hotel, the room, and the location. The
reasonable rates, along with the free parking was a huge plus. The
staff was friendly, always helpful and knowledgeable. The location
was great. Walking distance from all of the restaurants and shops
on Chestnut
Street, the Marina, the Exploratorium and the Presidio. A short
convenient bus ride to the Wharf,
Chinatown, and
other attractions.
A final note, our trip was scheduled from Sept. 8-12, 2001. Needless
to say, world events necessitated our extending the stay a few days.
The staff at the Cow Hollow was very accommodating, not even a hint
of the kind of mercenary attitude some of the car rental places
adopted that week. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone
and everyone, including families with kids."

at the Cow Hollow Motor Inn four or five times for work and now
it's the only place I'll stay when in San Francisco - either for
fun OR business. The location is fabulous - one block from
a wide variety of moderately priced (and mostly good) restaurants
in the Marina district, safe, and relatively quiet. If traffic
bothers you, ask for a room in the back, since the Lombard Street
side gets noisy, especially at 7 o'clock in the morning.
They recently
became a no-smoking hotel, but one of their sister properties allows
smoking. There's no room service, hotel restaurant, or anything
like that, but you really don't need that with all the food near
by. The parking is free (in basement), the rooms are large
and comfortable, and each room has a large modern bathroom.
Transportation
to the usual touristy spots is a little difficult (although there
ARE buses nearby,
and cabs are plentiful), but if you have a car you won't care.
For convenience and price (around $85 winter and $95 summer,
I believe), the Cow Hollow is the best! It also puts you
close to the wonderful northwest part of the town, plus the Golden
Gate Bridge and Marin Headlands, which should not be missed if you
have a car. If you can't get into the Cow Hollow, there's
a Coventry Inn
nearby, which is run by the same folks, plus another Motor Inn whose
name escapes me. I have not stayed at either, but they
look to be quite similar, just a little less desirable in terms
of location.
There are
a number of budget hotels and motels in the Lombard
Street area near the Marina district. The Cow Hollow
is one of the best in the high range of budget. It's similar
to a very nice Holiday Inn or Comfort Inn - not a Motel 6.
I highly recommend it. "

regarding the Cow Hollow Motor Inn on Lombard are right on the money,
except for the comment about the premises being smoke-free.
Only
one side of the hotel is smoke-free and the other has smoking
rooms. I stay at the Cow Hollow whenever I am in the city and I
find the staff very accomodating, the rooms quite comfortable and
the restaurants
nearby remarkable. Try La Barca one block down on Lombard for good
Mexican and margaritas. And for
steaks and chops, Izzy's, around the corner on Steiner, is an S.F.
landmark. "

is another of San Francisco's hidden jewels. We have stayed
there several times and it is clean, near bus lines and restaurants.
Some of the rooms have views of the Golden Gate Bridge! You
are minutes from the wharf area and the Bridge, Presidio, Marina
and Coit Tower. The rate was $115.00 per night (our 3rd night
was only $99.00). Excellent location and the staff is helpful
also."
