The location
is very convenient to great San Francisco neighborhoods like Union
Street, Pacific Heights, and the Marina. An budget choice on
the Van Ness corridor away from the hustle and bustle of Union
Square near the upscale real SF neighborhoods. Recent review
postings from visitors in 2005 / 2006 have indicated a relatively
low quality of the rooms; age of the room furnishings; and
maintenance of the rooms. Expect a great location, but an ok
room / service based on visitor reviews in 2005 / 2006.
Your getting a low cost deal - but the room quality appears to
suffer a bit. There are several spotted reports of travelers
being walked to other lower quality rooms when the hotel is
overbooked. Travelers write in 2005 / 2006:
- "...The rooms are rundown, but
somewhat clean......toilet seat was old & scuffed up......shower
door didn't fully close and shower never got very hot..."
- "...The quality of the room was
below to my satisfaction - insufficient lighting, undone wiring
and unclean quilt; overall room looked 'old' and seems maintained
occasionally..."
- "...The towel rack was broken, the
window was broken and had to be closed from outside the room, the
lamp shade was broken. There were stains on the bed spread. Our
attempts to have these problems addressed by the front desk were
ignored..."
This is not
closest to all the action, but with reasonable bus and cable car
route skills, you can go anywhere reasonably. And the room
savings should be enough to pay for dinner for the whole family!
Union Street shopping is just up a couple blocks, too. A
stroll past the coffee, dress, and shops is a great early AM
diversion. And you'll appreciate more reasonable pricing after a
trip to Union Square.
