Associate, Visitor Experience – Seasonal 

The Associate, Visitor Experience drives results and enhances the visitors experience by providing exceptional service that supports San Francisco Travel’s mission by acting as an ambassador at our Visitor Information Center. The mission of the San Francisco Travel Association is to enhance the local economy by marketing San Francisco and the Bay Area as the premier destination for conventions, meetings events and leisure travel. 

What you will be doing:

  • Assist a diverse and international set of visitors in their travel details, providing expert assistance and recommendations in San Francisco restaurants, attractions, tours, and neighborhoods. 
  • Assess needs by responding to visitor cues and asking questions to arrive at the best recommendation for that individual or group. .
  • Educate customers on the benefits of all products carried by the ViC. (City Pass, Muni Passport, Hop on Hop off buses, etc)
  • Completes all cashier-required transactions with accuracy and efficiency, selling transportation packages, tour packages, and attraction tickets.
  • Assigned as needed to work the City Information Desk at the Moscone Center, assisting business and convention travelers with recommendations for after work activities. 
  • Work efficiently to assist visitors while maintaining an excellent standard of service
  • Assist in necessary duties to present the best possible experience for visitors, maintaining a clean and welcoming environment. (example: restocking brochures, organizing displays, greeting and crowd control, etc)
  • Constantly building your knowledge and expertise of the San Francisco experience, completing all provided training and activities to familiarize yourself with the services offered by partners of San Francisco Travel (example: attending attraction tours and open houses, going on half day excursions to popular destinations, keeping up to date on city news and events)
  • Compliance with all SF Travel policies and procedures.

  • Ability to effectively communicate with customers and store personnel.
  • Computer proficiency.
  • Fluency in a second (or more) language other than English.
  • Excellent knowledge of San Francisco public transportation and neighborhoods.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule to meet the needs of the business, which will require weekend shifts.
  • Ability to work in an outdoor environment for a full eight hour shift. 
  • Ability to work in a 100% standing environment.
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 20 pounds.

  • High School Graduation and partial to full College Degree
  • Must have strong oral and written communication skills

Director, Public Policy & Executive Office Programs

 The mission of the San Francisco Travel Association is to enhance the local economy by marketing San Francisco and the Bay Area as the premier destination for conventions, meetings events and leisure travel. We are the economic engine for the city, and travel is our fuel – it is solely our unique point of view as the city’s travel expert that allows us to see the entire destination rather than industry-by-industry.

This person will oversee the management, programming and engagement of the Board of Directors to ensure their ongoing support and commitment to San Francisco Travel's mission and program of work.  They will work closely with the Board of Directors, Board Councils and Committees, City representatives and industry partners and leaders.  

This person will also support the development and implementation of programs aimed at promoting and maintaining positive and productive relationships with local elected officials and other external stakeholders.  

   What you will be doing:

  • Oversee management of the Board of Directors and Executive Committee including coordination and management of meeting programming and regular reporting
  • Oversee the planning and implementation of the annual Board of Directors retreat
  • Identify opportunities to improve Board communications, involvement and participation
  • Maintain regular communication with the Board and Past Chairs to ensure they remain engaged with San Francisco Travel activity
  • Serve as staff liaison to the Board Development Committee and manage Board member recruitment, annual nomination process, orientation and assessment
  • Manage Executive Office Budget and coordinate Executive Office input into Strategic Business Plan
  • Manage community outreach in partnership with stakeholders
  • Direct organization participation in community events
  • Supports VP, Public Policy in the implementation of local public policy-related activities, initiatives and outreach efforts
  • Provides administration support for the Public Policy Council by sending out participation invites, taking council minutes, noting council participation, and other related activities
  • Participation in local boards supporting the visitor or public policy industry
  • Track and monitor legislation and projects
  • Stay abreast of tourism industry issues through participation in tourism industry organizations
  • Maintain strong industry ties to show support and appreciation for community stakeholders through attendance at merchant association meetings and events, civic organization meetings and events etc.
  • Collaborate with Public Policy, Communications and Media Relations staff to develop and distribute periodic communication to stakeholders addressing topics of importance and interest to San Francisco's tourism industry
  • May serve as a representative for San Francisco Travel and/or the visitor industry on community boards, committees and task forces and in presentations to community organizations
  • Requires domestic travel 10% of annual hours worked
  • Co-manage interns when needed
  • Co-manage Executive Associate, Executive Office when needed
  • Other duties may be assigned

Personal Attributes and Qualifications:

  • Consistently demonstrate the capacity to think and work across functional lines, including participation with executive level staff and staff in all divisions and departments 
  • Adapt quickly to course-corrections as appropriate, and lead change intiatives within messaging.  Proactively  approach operational issues and recommend creative solutions to problems
  • Manage multiple complex tasks or projects simultaneously, effectively planning, communicating, prioritizing and coordinating resources to produce desired results
  • Ability to deliver candid,  balanced feedback to employees, and to communicate effectively to various levels of staff within the Association and in public
  • Education and/or training equivalent to college graduate
  • Experience in Public Policy/Government & Community Affairs
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; charismatic speaking and presenting skills
  • Ability to work effectively and creatively under tight deadlines and in critical business situations
  • Ability to think strategically, set short, mid and long range goals, implement plans, manage projects, plan and monitor budgets  and perform analysis and make recommendations to key staff
  • Comprehensive knowledge of San Francisco and California
  • Ability to communicate and work well with executives and staff at all levels as well as members, media, vendors and others in a professional office environment
