How I See San Francisco: Annie Allen

Annie Allen is a longtime partner of the San Francisco Travel Association. She's spent her career curating unforgettable experiences for visitors to San Francisco. Since she's a proud local and destination expert, we asked Annie for some of her favorite things to see and do in San Francisco. Have you done everything on Annie's list?

You currently live in the Marina. What are some things visitors should do in your neighborhood?

The Marina is a great neighborhood for a stroll. There are flower shops, local boutiques, jewelry stores, delis, and bakeries. Both Chestnut and Union streets have plenty to offer.

What are some restaurants you'd recommend to visitors?

In no particular order: Blue Plate, Original Joe's, and Rich Table.

What's the best place to grab a cocktail?

The rooftop of the Proper Hotel. I love the atmosphere. On a clear day, it's a great way to get a view of the city.

Where would you tell visitors to go for an excursion beyond the bridge?

Wine country. Visit Napa and Sonoma, our neighbors to the north. Both are easy to get to and full of Northern California charm, not to mention delicious wine.

What's one item still on your San Francisco bucket list?

Visit the observation deck of Coit Tower, and take a historic walking tour.

Any last advice for visitors to San Francisco?

Get out and explore our neighborhoods, and don't forget to look up. San Francisco has beautiful architecture.
