The Ultimate Festival of Film, Food, and Wine Returns to Sonoma
Sponsored by the Sonoma International Film Festival
Please note: the 2020 Sonoma International Film Festival has been postponed. For updates on potential revised dates, please visit sonomafilmfest.org.
Now in its 23rd year, the Sonoma International Film Festival (SIFF), presented by United MileagePlus® Cards from Chase*, will take place March 25 - 29, 2020. Held in the town of Sonoma, SIFF 2020 will showcase a fascinating mix of more than 100 hand-selected films including features, documentaries and shorts showcasing work from filmmakers around the world. One of the most interesting destination festivals around, this renowned event was twice recognized by "MovieMaker Magazine" as one of the 25 Coolest Film Festivals in the world.
An entirely walkable festival focused on film, food, wine and fun, all SIFF films are shown at intimate venues centered around the Sonoma Plaza.
This year, invited celebrities include actors Kate Bosworth, Edward James Olmos, Martin Sheen and David Straitharn from the darkly comic film The Devil Has a Name, and director Tom Dolby and actress Lena Olin from the drama The Artist’s Wife. Other actors extended invitations include Colewell’s Karen Allen (best known for her role in the Indiana Jones franchise), and Helen Reddy from I Am Woman, along with producer Andres Vincente Gomez. Louis Gossett, Jr., most recently seen in HBO’s Watchmen series, has been invited to show his latest artistic offering, The Cuban.
While Hollywood celebrities bring an excitement to the scene, one of the best things about SIFF is the blend of both known and unknown talent. SIFF has served as the launch pad for many indie filmmakers and makes a concerted effort to promote independent motion pictures and the unsung heroes from around the world who work tirelessly to bring their cinematic dreams to life. For example, this year, festival organizers have invited the minds behind Fire on the Mountain, an amazing action sports film which features music from the Grateful Dead.
This festival doesn’t just celebrate cinema; food and wine are a highlight, as well. Sonoma is a town that has a rich restaurant scene, as well as award-winning wineries, many on display at SIFF. Last year's Chef’s & Shorts, where five celebrity guest chefs presented a dish based on their unique impressions of a film, is expected to return.
The best way to experience the festival and have access to all films is by purchasing a SIFF pass. There are different levels to enjoy, but all pass holders will have access to the SIFF Backlot Hospitality Tent with daytime activations and happy hours, as well as a lively VIP area and evening parties.
