Celebrate World Oceans Week at Aquarium of the Bay

The Aquarium of the Bay's World Oceans Week programming has ended; please visit the Aquarium here to view current events.

In celebration of World Oceans Day on June 8, the Aquarium of the Bay is hosting special programming on June 8, 9 and 10, 2018.

World Oceans Day was recognized by the United Nations on Earth Day in 2008 is promoted by The Ocean Project and the World Ocean Network. It has been recognized on June 8 since its conception in 1992. World Ocean Day focuses on preventing plastic pollution and encouraging solutions for a healthy ocean, promoting personal and community action to protect marine life and preserve ocean water quality. The Aquarium joins conservtion organizations around the globe to recognize the wealth and beauty of the oceans, and to encourage solutions to the dangerous problems caused by plastic pollution.

Sponsored events by the Aquarium include:

  • Free admission for children 12 and under on June 8
  • Special educational programs to raise awareness of the importance of the oceans and information on preventing marine litter
  • beach clean-up at Aquatic Park near the Maritime Museum and Fisherman's Wharf on Saturday June 9 from 10 a.m. - 1 p.m. For more information and to signup, click here.
