San Francisco Travel announces new Board and Council Chairs for 2013/2014
The San Francisco Travel Association installed Mariann Costello, vice president of Scoma’s Restaurant, as chair for the 2013/2014 fiscal year at the organization’s 103rd Annual Luncheon meeting on June 18, 2013. The San Francisco Travel chair presides over the board of directors and the executive committee. Costello will direct and guide policy at all meetings involving members, the executive committee and the board of directors.
June 26, 2013 - The San Francisco Travel Association installed Mariann Costello, vice president of Scoma’s Restaurant, as chair for the 2013/2014 fiscal year at the organization’s 103rd Annual Luncheon meeting on June 18, 2013.
Costello succeeds 2012/2013 Chair David Nadelman, general manager of the Grand Hyatt San Francisco.
The San Francisco Travel chair presides over the board of directors and the executive committee. Costello will direct and guide policy at all meetings involving members, the executive committee and the board of directors.
“Mariann will be the perfect chair to lead this organization in the year ahead,” said Joe D’Alessandro, president and CEO of San Francisco Travel. “Her background and dedication will be invaluable as we finalize plans to expand Moscone Center and prepare for the new sports arena and the Super Bowl in 2016.”
A native San Franciscan, Costello has 29 years of restaurant experience. She served as President of the Golden Gate Restaurant Association, and President of the San Francisco Taxicab Commission. Currently she serves as Chairwoman of the California Restaurant Association Board, as a member of the San Francisco Chamber of Commerce Board and as a Trustee for the Golden Gate Restaurant Association Scholarship Foundation. In 2009, Ms. Costello was selected by the San Francisco Business Times as one of the Most Influential Women in Business in the Bay Area, and inducted in the Forever Influential Honor Roll in 2010.
Costello has been part of the San Francisco Travel board of directors and executive committee since 2006 and has served as chair of numerous councils and committees including the Community Engagement Council, the Finance Committee and was the inaugural chair of the Tourism Council. She was most currently chair-elect on the San Francisco Travel Board of Directors.
San Francisco Travel also installed Stephen Revetria, vice president & general manager of Giants Enterprises, as chair elect. The vice chair is Gary Bauer, president of Bauer’s Intelligent Transportation, who will also continue his role of chair of the Community Engagement Council. The secretary-treasurer is Rodrigo Enriquez, president of Extranomical Adventures, Inc. Four board members were named chairs of councils that provide general policy direction and oversight to San Francisco Travel staff:
- Tom Klein, general manager and regional vice president-California, Fairmont Hotels and Resorts, to the Meetings & Conventions Council
- Kathy Paver, senior vice president of marketing at PIER 39, to the Consumer Promotions Council
- Anna Marie Presutti, general manager of Hotel Nikko, to the Tourism Council
- Melinda Yee Franklin, managing director, corporate and government affairs, western region, United Airlines, to the Public Policy Council
The four officers and four council chairs make up San Francisco Travel’s executive committee along with the immediate past chair. 2011/2012 Chair John Cope has been appointed by the Board to remain immediate past chair for an additional year as 2012/13 Chair David Nadelman is relocating out of San Francisco. Cope will also serve as the 2013/2014 chair of the San Francisco Travel Foundation.
San Francisco Travel’s board of directors is comprised of 25 to 35 members and meets regularly to review and set policy for the association and its ongoing marketing efforts. The board approves and oversees an annual budget and program of work to be executed by staff.

- Luanne Calvert, vice president marketing & communications, Virgin America
- Michael Dunne, general manager, Hilton Union Square San Francisco
- Murat Eskicioglu, regional general manager, SAVOR San Francisco at Moscone Center
- Peter Gamez, vice president of global sales,Commune Hotels and Resorts
- Polly Nelson, managing director, DFS North America
