San Francisco Amplifies Its 2026 Live Music Scene With An Expanded Lineup of Festivals and Concert Series

SAN FRANCISCO, CA (June 11, 2026) — San Francisco is set to strike a chord and deliver another landmark year for live music with an expanded lineup of festivals and concert series that span genres, neighborhoods and seasons.

The sounds of the city will be brought to stages, parks and public spaces across San Francisco, with new events joining an already impressive roster. Among the latest additions is the SFO Summer Music Series, which launched a new "Terminal Sessions" program featuring artists from the Stern Grove Festival and bringing the nation's oldest free music festival directly to travelers at San Francisco International Airport.

The city’s celebrated lineup also features marquee events such as Outside Lands Music & Arts Festival, Portola Music Festival, Hardly Strictly Bluegrass and the Fillmore Jazz Festival. Whether discovering a new artist, attending a legendary festival, or enjoying a free concert in Golden Gate Park, audiences can experience every beat of 2026 through the following list of San Francisco’s upcoming and unforgettable live music. 

SFO Terminal Summer Music Series | June 13 and June 20

The San Francisco International Airport announced the launch of their annual summer music series, SFO Celebrates: Summer Music in San Francisco with free concerts from artists slated to appear at the iconic Stern Grove Festival, the oldest free music festival in the United States. SFO’s “Terminal Sessions” program will feature renowned Indian alternative rock band, Peter Cat Recording Co. and Colombian electro tropical band, Bomba Estéreo, for an in-terminal show before their Stern Grove performance. Terminal Sessions will be held post-security at Gate B4 in Harvey Milk Terminal 1. Admission is free, and no plane ticket is required. With the new SFO Gate Explorer program, visitors can secure a pass in advance to go beyond security. 

Yerba Buena Gardens Festival | May 9-November 13

San Francisco’s unique, free outdoor festival in Yerba Buena Gardens opened May 9 and offers more than 100 free performances over a seven-month period including SF Uke Jam on July 4; YBG ChoreoFest on July 25 and August 1; and the Afro-Filipino Jazz Project on October 24.

Golden Gate Park Bandshell Concerts  | April-November

Free music has been a Golden Gate Park Band tradition for generations (since 1882!), and the robust 2026 schedule is no different. One of the oldest professional concert bands in the United States, the Golden Gate Park Band presents family-friendly concerts ranging from Broadway favorites and opera to marches, big band swing and original compositions. Complementing the season, Illuminate LIVE will feature more than 125 free performances through mid-November. Renovated with state-of-the-art sound and lighting, the Bandshell now hosts an eclectic mix of independent artists, local legends and community events including Midweek Melodies, Friday Happy Hour and Crucial Reggae Sundays, making it one of San Francisco's most active outdoor music venues.

Stern Grove Festival | June 14-August 16

Since 1938, these free concerts in San Francisco’s spectacular 33-acre urban forest have entertained generations. Although opera and ballet concerts were part of the original flow, the festival now presents all genres and includes the SF Symphony with Béla Fleck on July 12. The weekly Sunday afternoon concerts also include Patti LaBelle on August 9, Public Enemy on Aug. 15, and wrap with Al Green on August 16.

San Francisco Opera Summer Season | May 28-June 27

The Opera’s summer duo in the SF War Memorial balances comedy in Gioachino Rossini’s “The Barber of Seville,” May 28-June 21, with drama in Richard Strauss’ “Elektra,” June 7–27. The company’s second annual Pride concert, June 26, will be emceed by Sapphira Cristál and conducted by Robert Mollicone. The Merola Summer Festival showcases rising operatic talent across a trio of additional performances from June 25 – August 15.

“People in Plazas” Market Street Music Festival  | June-August

Throughout the summer, the "People in Plazas" (PiP) Market Street Music Festival brings free live music to the heart of downtown San Francisco. Featuring more than 130 performances across 15 public spaces between the Embarcadero and Fourth Street, the series transforms plazas, parks and gathering spaces into vibrant outdoor stages. Local and regional musicians perform a wide range of styles, and the midday shows are open to all, offering an easy way for workers, residents and visitors to enjoy live music during the day.

Third Thursdays On Ellis | Monthly

This free, community-driven music series in the heart of San Francisco brings live entertainment and mixes the energy of a rave with the soul of a neighborhood celebration, set against the backdrop of one of the city’s most historic restaurants - John’s Grill. Globally recognized electronic music artist HABSTRAKT, joined by N808, Clayton William, and Duserock, takes the stage on June 18. RSVP required.

SFJAZZ Summer Sessions | June-August 

Hosted by the acclaimed SFJAZZ organization, Summer Sessions offers a season-long celebration of jazz and global music at the SFJAZZ Center in Hayes Valley. The series features dozens of performances from legendary artists and emerging talent across multiple stages for a dynamic and diverse live music experience. Highlights for 2026 include London's Afrobeat and highlife collective KOKOROKO, jazz legend Wynton Marsalis Septet, funky favorites Lettuce, Colombian sensation Monsieur Periné, and Grammy-winning gospel vocalists Take 6. 

Jerry Day | August 1

Jerry Day in McLaren Park is a free celebration honoring the life, music and legacy of San Francisco native and musician Jerry Garcia. Marking nearly 24 years, Jerry Day combines live performances, cultural programming and neighborhood pride as a uniquely San Francisco tradition. The 2026 lineup includes performances by Melvin Seals & JGB and other special guests, welcoming fans of all generations to celebrate together.

Outside Lands Music & Arts Festival | August 7-9

Outside Lands returns to Golden Gate Park for another weekend of music, food, art and culture. The three-day festival features more than 100 artists across multiple stages including headliners Charli XCX, The Strokes, PinkPantheress, The XX, and Geese. Beyond the music, attendees can enjoy curated local food and wine experiences, art installations and the festival's signature cannabis programming, all set against the backdrop of one of San Francisco's most iconic parks.

Opera in the Park | September 13

The San Francisco Opera Orchestra’s annual Opera in the Park is a free afternoon of world-class music under the open sky in Robin Williams Meadow. Led by Music Director Eun Sun Kim, the San Francisco Opera Orchestra welcomes acclaimed vocalists for a program of arias, duets and more. Family-friendly and open to all, the annual gathering serves as a festive kickoff to the San Francisco Opera season and invites audiences of every age to experience the power and beauty of live opera.

Portola Music Festival | September 26-27

Portola Music Festival returns to San Francisco's waterfront for a weekend dedicated to electronic music and dance culture. Presented by the producers of Coachella, the 21+ festival takes over Pier 80 with massive warehouse stages, immersive production and stunning views of the skyline. The 2026 stacked lineup features global artists including Robyn, Zara Larsson and Parcels for an unforgettable series of live shows.

Hardly Strictly Bluegrass | October 2-4

October in San Francisco means it's time for Hardly Strictly Bluegrass, the beloved free music festival that transforms Golden Gate Park into one of the nation's largest outdoor concert venues. Spanning three days, six stages and more than 80 performances, the festival showcases everything from bluegrass, folk, rock, soul, Americana and roots music. Known for its laid-back crowd and devoted fan base, Hardly Strictly is one of the city's most treasured cultural traditions. Keep an eye out for the highly anticipated 2026 lineup.
