San Francisco has been named the top place in America for a fall getaway by U.S. News & World Report’s new rankings of the Best Vacations, available online at here.
San Francisco was second only to Paris, France on the global list and rose above Chicago, Las Vegas, New York City and other destinations. The new rankings identify the best vacations based on an unbiased methodology. Two factors determine how each destination ranks. First is how published travel writers, on the whole, recommend the destination. Second is how strongly U.S. News Travel website users (consumers) recommend the destination to fellow travelers.
In answer to the question, “Why go?” the website states, “San Fran is ideal for a quick getaway. With the tourists long gone, the off-peak season allows for easier navigating down the crooked Lombard Street and across the Golden Gate Bridge. If you're with kids, take the cable cars over the city’s steep hills to Ghirardelli Square for some chocolate. Or tour the Japanese Tea Garden and then relax in Golden Gate Park with a picnic while the kids burn off some energy.”
“U.S. News just named San Francisco both the best U.S. vacation and best summer vacation back in May,” said Joe D’Alessandro, president and CEO of the San Francisco Travel Association. “It’s great to hear that travel writers and U.S. News’ readers continue to recommend our beautiful city in both the summer and the fall. San Francisco truly is a year round destination with terrific things to see and do during all seasons.”
