San Francisco Travel has launched a new initiative called SFMeetCulture, designed to connect meeting planners more easily with San Francisco’s most historically significant art and culture venues.


San Francisco Travel has launched a new initiative called SFMeetCulture, designed to connect meeting planners more easily with San Francisco’s most historically significant art and culture venues. This was developed to showcase the close geography and flexible capacity of the most relevant venues within the 49 square miles of the city.  

“Our focus on bringing more meetings and events into San Francisco’s cultural and historic venues is a natural,” said Joe D’Alessandro, president and CEO of San Francisco Travel.  “Our museums, galleries, performance spaces, architecture and landmark sites are a major part of what makes San Francisco such a unique and irresistible destination.  These venues provide meeting attendees with unique, personalized and local experiences that no other city can offer - distinctively San Franciscan and immersive experiences in a rich environment.”

For the planner, these venues offer the high service level that comes from facilities that are already in the business of providing an outstanding guest experience every day.  And they enable planners to fulfill objectives and corporate programs such as supporting non-profit museums or partnering with sustainability-minded organizations.

“San Francisco’s culture and museum attractions are an important aspect of the overall event and city experience for our attendees.  It is one more great reason we plan meetings in San Francisco,” said Dave Weil, CAE, vice president of event services with SmithBucklin and a member of San Francisco Travel’s Customer Advisory Council.

SFMeetCulture has three components designed to make the meeting planner’s job easier.

The first component is the expansion of the robust online search tool on San Francisco Travel’s website.  On the Venue Search page,, the planner now has the option of viewing Art/Cultural Venues in addition to the Hotels, Restaurants sand Special Event Venues.

A second SFMeetCulture component is a new downloadable online map showing the proximity of several of San Francisco's most in-demand hotels to culturally and historically significant venues in the heart of the city, starting with the SoMa and Union Square areas. The maps also provide scale to San Francisco's 49 square miles of landmarks and icons located in neighborhoods such as Fisherman’s Wharf, Bay Bridge, the Embarcadero, etc.   

The third part of SFMeetCulture is a set of  seven articles – a direct response to the most sought after questions from meeting planners –  that introduce meeting planners to event venues that offer authentic San Francisco spirit and enrichment as well as state of the art settings and technology.
