San Francisco Adds China-Based Director of International Meetings and Incentive Sales

San Francisco Travel Association has hired John Zhu to the newly created position of Director, International Meetings & Incentive Sales - Asia/Pacific

Jan. 4, 2016 - The San Francisco Travel Association has hired John Zhu to the newly created position of Director, International Meetings & Incentive Sales - Asia/Pacific, to be based in Shanghai, China.  

“With China as our top overseas market, now is the time for us to focus on bringing more self-contained MICE (meetings, incentives, congresses and exhibitions) and group business from Asia and the Pacific regions.   John Zhu is well qualified to connect San Francisco’s outstanding meeting venues, hotels, restaurants and iconic attractions with customers in this important and growing market,” said Joe D’Alessandro, San Francisco Travel president and CEO.

Zhu brings more than 20 years of hotel and hospitality experience to his new role, including past positions in sales for Marriott, Shangri-La, Harbour Plaza, Four Seasons, Le Royal Meridien, and St. Regis hotels. 

Prior to joining San Francisco Travel, Zhu was Director of Global Sales at Carlson Rezidor Hotel Group Shanghai, where he worked with several different market segments including business transient, MICE (meetings, incentives, congresses and exhibitions), government, travel management companies and airlines.  

He was recently awarded Carlson Rezidor’s “2015 General Sales Office of the Year” for Asia Pacific.  He is a graduate of Jiao Tong University Shanghai with a degree in Business Administration.
