Redevelopment of DOCO
The Golden 1 Center, home to the NBA's Sacramento Kings, opened in 2016 and has spurred the construction of new restaurants, retail and other amenities in the Downtown Commons area (DOCO). DOCO is where the locals hang out and proudly welcomes visitors from around the globe.
The Kimpton Sawyer Hotel
Newly opened in October 2017, the Kimpton Sawyer Hotel has 250 rooms right in the heart of Sacramento. The hotel also has 22,000 square feet of flexible meeting space. You can plan anything from a seated banquet to a poolside cocktail hour.
Major Changes In Store for the Sacramento Convention Center Complex
The Sacramento Convention Center Complex includes the Convention Center, Memorial Auditorium, and Community Center Theater. Memorial Auditorium and the Community Center Theater have both been used for general sessions. The Memorial Auditorium is often used as a unique venue for all kinds of food and beverage functions, as well as exhibits, given its convenient location just a short walk from the Convention Center.
The city is making improvements to all of these venues. Memorial Auditorium will be getting new seating, improved lighting and rigging, acoustic enhancements, and a new orchestra shell. Construction is due to begin Summer 2018.
Community Center Theater is being completely renovated and will undergo a dramatic transformation. The building will have upgraded finishes, additional restrooms and concession areas, as well as improved accessibility and an expanded lobby. To better accommodate larger shows, the loading dock will be expanded and additional storage added. Construction will start in January 2019 and the building will close in June 2019 for interior work.
The Convention Center will be expanding their exhibit space to 160,000 square feet, adding new East and West lobbies, a 40,000 square foot ballroom, new meeting spaces on both the East and West sides of the building, as well as updating all existing spaces. There will be an activities plaza connecting the convention center to the newly renovated theater, which will be used as a unique meeting, exhibit and event space. Work on the East lobby will begin in January 2019. In July 2019, the building will close to complete the construction, reopening in October 2020. Construction on the interior of the new ballroom will continue with an anticipated completion date of early April 2021.
A great new team building venue and restaurant, Punchbowl Social welcomes private events of all types and sizes, with multiple arrangements for groups of 10 to 1,000 people. A full buy-out of the space gives you access to eight bowling lanes, two bocce courts, karaoke, foosball, and more.
