Before you can build attendance, you need key stakeholder buy-in. Safety Initiatives

San Francisco is doubling down on safety, visibility, and preparedness for meetings and conventions of every size. The San Francisco Travel Association, the local hospitality and business community, the city’s elected and appointed officials, law enforcement officers, first responders, and volunteers are committed to providing you and your attendees with world-class hospitality in a safe environment.

City- and State-Led Action

Through collaborative efforts, including initiatives from Mayor Daniel Lurie and the state, safety remains a top priority. The mayor has supported the San Francisco Police Department (SFPD) by prioritizing funding for:

  • SFPD Hospitality Task Force: A dedicated team of officers who provide increased security and rapid response in high-traffic areas, working directly with hotels and businesses to ensure a welcoming, safe atmosphere for meetings and conventions.
  • Proposition E: Approved in March 2024, this measure increases the number of officers on San Francisco streets, allows the usage of modern tech by police, and more.

Within his 2025-2026 and 2026-2027 city budgets, Mayor Lurie has:

  • Prioritized public safety by investing in police officers, firefighters, sheriff’s deputies, 911 dispatchers, and other first responders,
  • Invested in clean and safe streets by maintaining funding for street cleaners, adding new street cleaning staff, strengthening neighborhood-based ambassador programs, and more.
  • Unlocked resources that allow the city to redirect unspent funds and give unhoused people access to treatment and services.

As of August 2025, crime was down nearly 30% year over year.

Walkable Downtown San Francisco

Clean, Walkable Streets

With these investments, areas around major event venues—including The Moscone Center—are cleaner, more inviting, and easier to navigate.

San Francisco is one of the most walkable cities in the nation, making it easy for attendees to access iconic landmarks and attractions, Michelin-starred restaurants, and event venues. Of the city’s 35,000 hotel rooms, more than 19,000 are within walking distance of The Moscone Center.

Police officers are always on patrol along the streets outside The Moscone Center on event days. In addition, officers specializing in homeless outreach will be in the neighborhood.

The number of tents on city streets has reached its lowest point since before the pandemic.

Additional On-the-Ground Support

From Community Benefit Districts (CBDs) improving public space to the expert Pre-Con Team, groups are never alone.

CBDs are non-profit organizations that partner with the city to fund clean and safe initiatives and quality-of-life improvements for residents and visitors alike. Among them are the Union Square Alliance, which provides 24/7 service from cleaning to walking escorts, and the Yerba Buena CBD, whose guides surround The Moscone Center, offering a Clean Team, Community Guides, and walking escorts.

City pre-con meetings are hosted one to two weeks prior to a group moving in at The Moscone Center, giving you an opportunity to meet with representatives from San Francisco Travel, SFPD, CBDs, the city's Department of Public Works and Convention Facilities Department, and The Moscone Center.

It’s the only city in the world with both a LEED Platinum-certified convention center and airport. The Moscone Center has the second-largest publicly owned solar power system in the nation and has consistently raised the recycling standard for convention centers. Along with eco-friendly hotel accommodations and transportation options like e-scooters and Waymo, an all-electric, autonomous ride-hailing service available 24/7, the City by the Bay is where your meetings can be effortlessly environmentally conscious and align with your company’s platform.
