Hayes Valley is proof of San Francisco's innate resilience and creativity. This little neighborhood was once an afterthought for visitors; nothing but a tangle of roadways where the former Central Freeway once cut through on its way toward the Golden Gate.

After the Freeway was demolished, the local businesses moved in—and Hayes Valley quickly became the place to find unique, trend-setting clothing and accessories, home goods and decor, and much more. Its bars and restaurants have attracted a diverse crowd, from theatergoers catching a matinee to the powerbrokers of nearby City Hall. Now, the neighborhood has earned a reputation—and a new nickname—as being the center of emerging AI technologies. Who knows? The person seated next to you enjoying ice cream or a coffee at Patricia's Green could be "Cerebral Valley"'s next tech superstar!
