Senior Manager, Global Tourism Development

The mission of the San Francisco Travel Association is to enhance the local economy by marketing San Francisco and the Bay Area as the premier destination for conventions, meetings events and leisure travel. The Senior Manager, Global Tourism Development, has a crucial role of supporting, developing, and directing various travel industry sales and marketing programs, both domestically and internationally, including identifying new business opportunities, expanding client base, and increasing results from new and existing tour operators and other travel trade entities.  The position requires working cross-functionally within our organization to assist in the implementation and execution of integrated marketing campaigns, consisting of both b2b and b2c activities, and collaborates closely with external partners, stakeholders, and clients.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Global Travel Trade Development and Promotions

  • Assist in development and implementation of global travel trade strategies and marketing plans to effectively promote the destination in global visitor markets.
  • Act as regular liaison with our international agencies to ensure workplans are executed and on track, and reports and invoices are submitted on time.
  • Establish and maintain key relationships with airlines, travel trade, receptive tour operators, and wholesalers. 
  • Provide ongoing client support and servicing
  • Support for EVP & Director:
    • SFO contract administration (program development, billing, reporting etc.)
    • Recording and tracking of leads (Salesforce)
    • Internal and external presentation/meeting preparation
  • Respond to high volume of trade inquiries from international markets as well as general inquiries from other sources.
  • Represent SF Travel at tradeshows, events, sales trips or sales missions
  • Develop resources and materials needed for travel trade and MICE client development:
    • Presentations for client trainings
    • Sample itineraries
    • Update virtual platforms, such as online educational tool
    • Travel trade newsletter
  • Organize and implement tourism promotion programs including sales missions and San Francisco partner delegations at trade shows.
  • Plan and lead FAM trips for international travel trade clients

 Integrated Marketing Campaigns

  • Work with Senior Director to plan, implement, execute and optimize integrated marketing campaigns, including full funnel management from brand awareness to conversion and identifying revenue generating partnerships.
  • Collaborate with Global Marketing and Media Relations teams to execute and manage campaigns, such as:
    • Airline and OTA co-ops
    • Multi-channel digital B2B and B2C
    • Paid social media
    • Influencer marketing
  • Analyze key metrics and adjust strategy as needed
  • Compile reports showing results laddering up to goals and KPIs

Budget Management

  • Assist with budget and planning process, including building programs and inputting details into internal system.
  • Responsible for sourcing estimates, processing invoices and expenses, tracking of program budget and researching discrepancies.

  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally

 Educational Requirements

- BA/BS from a four-year accredited university.
- Five or more years of tourism industry sales and marketing experience preferred.

Sr. Manager, Convention Sales (Midwest Region - Preferably based in Chicago)

Sr. Manager, Convention Sales is responsible for the lead generation and hotel booking production for convention sales self-contained accounts from the Midwest territory. Maintains in-market and timely contact with customers and San Francisco self-contained meetings hotel salespeople.  Also, refers any citywide business for Moscone Center from assigned territories to the Director, Citywide Accounts for the appropriate territory to maximize new and repeat convention business for the City and County of San Francisco.  The Sr. Manager is responsible for the management of administrative associate.

What you will be doing:

  • Responsible for soliciting and booking self-contained hotel group business for San Francisco hotels with primary focus on booking hotel room nights in assigned territories
  • Responsible for working with customers, assisting them with navigating hotel and venue products, keeping close contact with the customer and hotels in order to confirm group business
  • Generate self-contained group leads and bookings and responsible for achieving or exceeding room night booking goals
  • Work efficiently to ensure leads and revisions are communicated to appropriate hotels/venues in a timely fashion.
  • Develop, implement and execute territorial sales plan and strategies, demonstrating an understanding of the overall market, i.e., hotels’ strengths and weaknesses, economic trends, supply and demand
  • Work collaboratively with San Francisco Home Office and Regional Sales Offices and assist with selling, implementation and follow-through of group sales strategies
  • Actively solicit and maintain accounts in assigned territories by conducting direct sales efforts through bids, targeted sales missions, sales calls and participation at tradeshows/conferences and industry activities that are designed to reach group meeting planners
  • Partner with hotels’ sales teams on sales calls in order to exchange knowledge and better understand each hotel’s needs.
  • Be an active member of local market industry organizations (i.e. MPI, PCMA, etc.)
  • Arrange and participate in client appreciation events for meeting planners headquartered in the designated geographical territory
  • Conduct follow up sales calls as a result of direct sales activities
  • Create and submit a detailed call report prior to and after a sales trip is conducted
  • Track and report personal sales results. 
  • Produce detailed expense reports monthly
  • Handle all clients from initial contact through booking.  Maintain detailed records of all client interaction utilizing CRM system
  • Uncover new business that is not in our database. 
  • Interface with hotel and other San Francisco Travel partners to facilitate efficient and thorough follow up based on these fields.
  • Arrange site inspections of San Francisco and accompany clients when appropriate
  • Maintain records of all client contact, traces and account management in the CRM system.
  • Obtain feedback on quality of the client experience by sending out surveys (managed by sales manager if group has 249 rooms peak or less)
  • Document all pertinent file activity in CRM
  • Carry out periodic assignment of special promotional activities.
  • Participate in and attend San Francisco Travel sponsored events.
  • Give oral sales presentations as needed
  • Occasional overnight travel

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Directly supervises one or more shared administrative assistants in the Convention Sales Department.  Carries out supervisory responsibilities with the San Francisco Travel Association policies and applicable laws.  Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees, planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance, rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Education and/or Experience:

Education and/ or training equivalent to college graduate, preferably with a degree in business administration or hospitality management, plus a minimum of five years’ experience in Hotel, DMO or Convention Center Sales.

Senior Manager, Global PR & Media Relations

We are seeking a Senior Manager, Media Relations to join San Francisco Travel Association’s Global PR and Media Relations team.

Our mission at San Francisco Travel is to promote the San Francisco region as a top global destination to support tourism growth. As part of the Global PR and Media Relations team, the Senior Manager, Media Relations generates positive media coverage of San Francisco as a premier destination for meetings, events and leisure travel and San Francisco Travel as its official destination marketing organization. We are the go-to media resource for all things San Francisco and tourism.

The Senior Media Relations Manager plays a key role in executing PR programs and driving media coverage that showcases San Francisco’s attractions, iconic sights, events, hotels, restaurants and more. The position will work with our international PR agencies and partner with Convention Sales and Services to promote meetings in the city.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Earned Media

  • Proactively pitch media, respond to queries, follow up on editorial opportunities and research new media outlets.
  • Coordinate group press trips and individual influencer and media visits.
  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with influential print, digital and broadcast media and SF Travel members’ PR and marketing teams.
  • Represent San Francisco Travel at international and domestic media events, missions and tradeshows and attend media dinners and events in San Francisco as needed.

 PR Planning and Program Execution

  • Write and distribute press materials, including press releases, customized pitches and media itineraries.
  • Develop and implement PR campaigns.
  • Coordinate with marketing team members to post PR content on social media channels and www.sftravel.com.
  • Assist with planning and organizing press events and media missions.

 Analysis and Administrative Support

  • Track, analyze and report on media coverage using San Francisco Travel’s third-party platforms and reporting standards.
  • Manage Media Relations data in Salesforce CRM. Build and maintain contact databases, track assisted media and donated services. Run reports as needed.
  • Assist VP Global PR & Media Relations with budgeting, accounting and other administrative tasks.
  • Other projects and duties may be assigned.

Sr. Associate, Design & Content

This person will be responsible for administrative and departmental support for Marketing Communications design functions and assisting Sr. Manager, Global Content & Communications, with content and email duties.

What you will be doing:

  • Manage photo requests for San Francisco Travel’s online photo and video library in addition to updating the database when new content is provided.
  • Support the Marketing Communications department by creating print and online deliverables, including promotional materials and collateral, emails and webpage updates.
  • Manage the print production for Marketing Communications, including coordination with print vendors and invoicing.
  • Act as primary contact and design backup when the Director, Design, is traveling on business and/or unavailable.
  • Create and update content as directed by the Sr. Manager, Global Content & Communications.
  • Create, update, and deploy email for Marketing Communications, Membership, Convention Sales & Services, and Travel Trade.
  • Manage and maintain email list health, forms and automations.
  • Manage Creative Services invoices and maintain budget information as needed.
  • Generate reporting from the organization’s project management system (Atlassian)

Director, Public Policy & Executive Office Programs

The mission of the San Francisco Travel Association is to enhance the local economy by marketing San Francisco and the Bay Area as the premier destination for conventions, meetings events and leisure travel. This person will oversee the management, programming, and engagement of the Board of Directors to ensure their ongoing support and commitment to San Francisco Travel's mission and program of work. They will work closely with the Board of Directors, Board Councils and Committees, City representatives and industry partners and leaders.

This person will also support the development and implementation of programs aimed at promoting and maintaining positive and productive relationships with local elected officials and other external stakeholders.

What you will be doing:

  • Oversee management of the Board of Directors and Executive Committee including coordination and management of meeting programming and regular reporting
  • Oversee the planning and implementation of the annual Board of Directors retreat
  • Identify opportunities to improve Board communications, involvement, and participation
  • Maintain regular communication with the Board and Past Chairs to ensure they remain engaged with San Francisco Travel activity
  • Serve as staff liaison to the Board Development Committee and manage Board member recruitment, annual nomination process, orientation and assessment
  • Manage Executive Office Budget and coordinate Executive Office input into Strategic Business Plan
  • Manage community outreach in partnership with stakeholders
  • Direct organization participation in community events
  • Supports VP, Public Policy in the implementation of local public policy-related activities, initiatives and outreach efforts
  • Provides administration support for the Public Policy Council by sending out participation invites, taking council minutes, noting council participation, and other related activities
  • Participation in local boards supporting the visitor or public policy industry
  • Track and monitor legislation and projects
  • Stay abreast of tourism industry issues through participation in tourism industry organizations
  • Maintain strong industry ties to show support and appreciation for community stakeholders through attendance at merchant association meetings and events, civic organization meetings and events etc.
  • Collaborate with Public Policy, Communications and Media Relations staff to develop and distribute periodic communication to stakeholders addressing topics of importance and interest to San Francisco's tourism industry
  • May serve as a representative for San Francisco Travel and/or the visitor industry on community boards, committees and task forces and in presentations to community organizations
