Experience the Summer of Love in Monterey County in 2017

Monterey County's Summer of Love programming for 2017 has ended. Please visit our Monterey destination page for current ideas on things to do and events.

2017 marks the 50th anniversary of the Summer of Love, when almost 100,000 people flocked to the Haight-Ashbury neighborhood of San Francisco and the city's environs. We now know these free thinkers as hippies, and they’re responsible for one of the 20th century’s most transformative movements, brought to life through a series of counter-cultural events that summer. One of the most celebrated was the Monterey Pop Festival.

Several musical performances, art exhibitions and special events are scheduled throughout summer 2017, all aiming to honor the 50th anniversary of the Monterey Pop Festival. Featuring artists such as Janis Joplin, Ravi Shankar, The Who and Jimi Hendrix, the 1967 Pop Festival is credited as a template for future outdoor concerts. It was the event that changed music history forever.

Join in the celebration and mark your calendar for the main event, June 16-18, 2017. The 50th Anniversary Monterey Pop Festival event will be held during the same exact weekend and at the same exact venue as the original. The Monterey County Fair & Event Center will be full of retro and modern-day artists throughout the three-day music festival.
