5 Reasons Why San Francisco is the Best Food City in the U.S.

We’ve always known that San Francisco was paradise for your taste buds.  Now the word is out that we’re more than just sourdough bread and Irish coffee.  Bon Appétit just named San Francisco the best food city in the country, including six of our hometown eateries in their pick of the top 50 restaurants nationwide—the most of any U.S. city. Here’s more proof that a visit to San Francisco will have you asking for seconds.

Location, Location, Location
A successful chef knows a dish is only as good as its ingredients.  The men and women heading up San Francisco’s busy kitchens make use of Northern California’s abundant fruits, vegetables, seafood and livestock to create fresh, authentic meals that truly can’t be had anywhere else.

Only the Best
San Francisco’s culinary scene is committed to excellence.  Media outlets ranging from Saveur to ESPN have all saluted San Francisco as being the best destination for foodies.  The 2015 Michelin Guide to San Francisco awarded four restaurants with three stars, six with two stars, and 30 with one star.  And Slanted Door is still among the toughest tables in town, one year after receiving the James Beard Foundation Award for Outstanding Restaurant in the U.S.

Raise Your Glass
Did you know San Francisco is where a number of your favorite cocktails were born? It’s true. In fact, San Francisco’s spirits scene is growing almost as rapidly as its food scene.  The city is embracing California’s brewery boom.  And some of San Francisco’s best restaurants are known as much for their outstanding wine selection as they are for their entrees.

A City Full of Flavor
Outstanding culinary experiences can be found all over the city, and no two neighborhoods are alike.  Whether you’re in the Mission, SOMA or North Beach, you’ll have the chance to sample everything from Sicilian pizza to mulligatawny soup to butternut squash quesadillas.  The diversity of San Francisco is reflected in the variety and fusing of different cuisines.

A Special Way to See the City
Don’t let the amount of choices overwhelm you.  We wouldn’t want you to miss out on all the other experiences San Francisco has to offer.  Take advantage of the tours and technology available to you to ensure that you can take in the city with both your eyes and your stomach.  Food tours can grant you behind-the-scenes access to some of the city’s hottest restaurants, and there are a number of apps that can help you choose and plan your dining experiences.
