Celebrate 50 Years of the Exploratorium in 2019
2019 kicks off a year-long celebration at the Exploratorium, as the iconic San Francisco science museum turns 50. Founded by educator, rancher, and physicist Frank Oppenheimer in 1969 as a place for guests to explore science, art, and human perception at their own pace, the Exploratorium is at the forefront of science education. With more than 650 hands-on exhibits that ignite curiosity, the Exploratorium invites visitors of all ages to play, observe, and discover.

50th Anniversary Celebration Highlights
Friday, Feb. 8, 9 p.m. - midnight
Get ready! Science of Cocktails is the Exploratorium’s most spirited fundraiser. Raise a glass to the Exploratorium’s 50th anniversary with creative cocktails from more than 20 bars, scrumptious bites, and experiential rooms themed after the Exploratorium's founding year 1969.
Thursday, Feb. 14, 6 - 10 p.m.
Chocolate: it’s everyone’s favorite...bean? Learn how the food of the gods goes from bitter fruit to beloved bar, then taste your way through a flight of delicious demonstrations.

Celebrate the endless number π by walking in the famous Pi Day Parade, delving into mathematical antics, and plenty of pie. Founded at the Exploratorium by physicist Larry Shaw, π Day has become an international holiday, celebrated live and online all around the world.

Feeling a little irrational? How about transcendental? Excited to taste some math puns? Taste some savory, sweet, and mathematically-specific baked goods at Pairings:Pie.

Join us at Afterglow, the ultimate Exploratorium party, featuring open bars, treats, live music, and immersive experiences to fuel your curiosity all evening long.

Self, Made dives headlong into the kaleidoscope of our multiple and fragmented (and potentially negotiable) selves, explored through a suite of new, interactive, inquiry-based exhibits and experiences, as well as artworks and curated cultural objects. Challenging, comforting, immersive, personal, and family-friendly, the exhibition weaves together elements from seemingly disparate realms—fashion, genetics, comic books, slang, and games—to connect with broader social matters of freedom, bias, agency, and authenticity.

Cheer on the competitors in this zany science cook-off, where teachers compete before a live audience for the sought-after title "Iron Science Teacher."
