What TI Artists Love About San Francisco

Brian Betancourt of Hospitality

NAME: Brian Betancourt
HOMETOWN: Brooklyn, NY
ACT: Hospitality

What is your favorite San Francisco restaurant and why?
This might not be a very exciting answer, but while on tour I very much look forward to the In-N-Out Burger on Fisherman's Wharf. In-N-Out is my favorite burger (Shake Shack is a close second, but I don't think you have that in SF). I don't know if it's the lack of In-N-Outs on the east coast or the anticipation of a tour-only delicacy, but I think it really is a wonderful thing.

What is your favorite San Francisco landmark and why?
Crossing the Golden Gate Bridge always fills me with excitement and dread, mostly because it reminds me of the gritty, creepy movies and TV shows I've loved that were based in SF, especially The Streets of San Francisco and David Fincher's Zodiac, which is one of my favorite movies of all time. If you haven't seen it, I think you would be pleasantly surprised by its gorgeous obsessiveness.

What is your favorite San Francisco coffee shop and why?
I tried Blue Bottle coffee for the first time before our last New York show and, let me tell you, that was the most intense coffee experience I've ever had. Granted I've only been drinking coffee for about a year or so, but I was completely unprepared for how quickly I turned into an insane person for the rest of the night. Ask anyone at that show; I couldn't talk about anything but how totally wired I was the entire time. That said, I've never been to a coffee shop in San Francisco but I will go with Blue Bottle Coffee because their coffee is the real deal. Full disclosure, I'm drinking Stumptown coffee as I write this (sorry).

What is your favorite San Francisco neighborhood and why?
I have fond memories of visiting a family friend in SF as a child and flying kites on Fisherman's Wharf. Also, there's an In-N-Out Burger there (see question #1).

What is your favorite San Francisco bar and why?
The first time Hospitality played in SF (Noise Pop '12 with Archers of Loaf), Dave (drummer) and I went to Primo's DJ night at Edinburgh Castle. Lots of beautiful people dancing to rare soul. I hadn't met Primo prior to that night, but it turned out he used to date my roommate, and I realized I had inherited several of his shirts. Small world.

Be sure to catch Hospitality at Treasure Island Music Festival on October, 14.
