How to Watch the San Francisco City Football Club

See the oldest community-owned soccer club in America in the heart of San Francisco at Kezar Stadium this Summer.

San Francisco has its own professional football club—and there’s never been a better time to get in on the action. San Francisco City FC has made big strides to make the matchday experience more inclusive, exciting, and community-driven. Here’s everything you need to know before heading out to a City match.

Where Does San Francisco City FC Play?

SF City FC plays at the famed Kezar Stadium in Golden Gate Park. Kezar Stadium is located just a few minutes away from the Haight-Ashbury neighborhood. From 1946 to 1970, the San Francisco 49ers called Kezar home and consistently brought in tens of thousands of fans to their games. Music icons such as Led Zeppelin, Bob Dylan, Neil Young, and the Grateful Dead have also hosted legendary concerts in the stadium.

How Do I Get to Kezar?

To get to Kezar Stadium, you can take the N-Judah or 7 bus. The 7 will drop you off next to the stadium, while the N-Judah will drop you off a block away.

What Can I Do Near Kezar Stadium?

Being in such a culturally vibrant part of the city, Kezar Stadium is the perfect launching point for numerous activities. Often considered the birthplace of the mainstream hippie movement, Haight-Ashbury was home to many iconic figures of the era, including the Grateful Dead and Janis Joplin. Today, you can explore the neighborhood’s storied streets and experience remnants of its countercultural heyday in its still-vibrant cafés, shops, and music venues. From Kezar, you can easily walk to the heart of Golden Gate Park. Here, you can bask in the sun near Hippie Hill, take in the gorgeous flowers at the Gardens of Golden Gate Park, and explore the park’s many serene trails. If you have kids with you, Koret Children’s Playground is sure to leave them tired and happy after their playtime.

What's the Fan Experience Like?

With a relatively small yet committed fan base, SF City FC matches feel more like a block party than simply watching a football match. Authentic and local, this tight knit community comes to support their team, but also to enjoy each other’s company. SF City FC matches are family-friendly, and kids are encouraged to participate in chants and traditions throughout the match.

When Are Matches Usually Held?

Home matches are usually held on Sundays at 3:30 p.m. and Wednesdays at 7:00 p.m. Make sure to check their website before matchday because some matches are at 5:30 p.m.

What Should I Wear?

Since San Francisco is jam-packed with microclimates, it is highly recommended that you bring layers. Kezar Stadium is notorious for how fast the fog and wind can roll in. Team colors are yellow, black, and red, so it is best to try and wear something that contains at least one of these colors.

Can I Bring Food or Drinks into Kezar?

No, you cannot bring outside food or beverages into Kezar Stadium during matches except for water bottles. One factory-sealed plastic water bottle with a capacity of 32 oz (1 liter) or less, and/or one clear and empty reusable plastic water bottle is allowed. Glass and metal water bottles are prohibited.

Food and drinks are available for purchase inside the stadium. Offerings include Adelita's Antojitos (pupusas), Saltwater Baskshop (pastries), Pops' Creole (gumbo, meat pies), and Standard Deviant for alcohol. Other rotating vendors will also appear throughout the season.

Are There Any Pre- or Post-Match Events?

Before kickoff, fans often tailgate in the Kezar Stadium parking lot. Throughout the season, the first few hundred fans through the gates receive giveaways. Prizes include pogs (June 22), a “Roll Fog!” pennant (June 25), a peace sign foam finger (June 29), a rally towel (July 2), a Muni-themed scarf (July 6), and a trucker hat (July 9). Toward the end of each match, sunglasses are tossed into the crowd, and one lucky fan is crowned “Thirstiest Fan of the Match”—earning a free case of Liquid Death for posting a match-day photo.

Is There a Special Fan Section in the Stands?

Most of the diehard supporters tend to sit on the western side of the northern stand. This is where the drums are played, and the chants are sung. The oldest supporter group is Lado Norte (The Northsiders) and the other is Kezar Union (a supporter group created by high schoolers).

Can I Buy Merchandise at Home Games?

Yes, you can purchase T-shirts, hats, scarves, and jerseys at every home match.

How Much Are Tickets?

Attending San Francisco City FC matches is affordable. Single tickets are just $13, or only $8 each when you buy a bundle of five. Tickets can be purchased directly through the club’s official website.
