Step Into Filoli’s Historic Home and Gardens

Built in 1917 by Agnes and William Bourn as a "place to grow young," the 56-room Georgian Revival manor invites visitors of all ages to step back in time. Families can stroll between rooms furnished with many of the Bourn family’s possessions, imagining lavish dinner parties once thrown in the ballroom or the bustling kitchen where staff once prepared as many as nine meals a day.

Outside, Filoli’s expansive gardens and Natural Lands offer an even more awe-inspiring experience. Take in sweeping views of the Santa Cruz Mountains as you wander through 16 acres of manicured grounds, from fragrant rose gardens to the Family Orchard. More nature awaits along Filoli’s two hiking trails, which loop through oak woodlands, grasslands and redwood forest carved by a rushing creek.

Family Adventures at Filoli

From the House to the gardens to the Lamchin Interpretive Center, Filoli is designed with curiosity in mind. Kids can embark on scavenger hunts with one of Filoli’s friendly on-site rangers, then climb, crawl and explore through the tunnels, balancing logs and whimsical nooks of the Nature Playspace Inside the Discovery Den, hands-on activities encourage little ones to connect with nature.

A highlight of any visit is meeting Rose Wonders, a 27-foot-tall troll sculpture crafted by acclaimed artist Thomas Dambo. After debuting at the 2025 Burning Man festival, Rose now makes her permanent home beneath Filoli’s towering redwoods.

A New Experience in Every Season

Every season reveals a different side of Filoli. In Spring, more than 100,000 blooming tulips in an eye-popping array of colors blanket Filoli’s grounds. Spooky season unfolds across the estate during Nightfall, from immersive storytelling experiences to woodland trails illuminated by jack o’ lanterns. Holidays at Filoli transforms the property into a magical wonderland complete with festive decorations, an enchanting holiday village and tunnels of twinkling lights.
