Watch Olympians, world champions, and a diverse array of athletes compete in the Escape from Alcatraz Triathlon this June.

The highly anticipated Escape from Alcatraz Triathlon returns to San Francisco, June 8-9, 2024.

Experience the adrenaline and excitement of this iconic race at Marina Green and cheer on the participants who come to  accomplish the impossible: an escape from Alcatraz Island! Athletes and fans can enjoy the Escape from Alcatraz Triathlon Fitness Festival & Expo on Saturday and Sunday of the race weekend. Entry is free and open to the public.

Where to Watch

Marina Green

You can reach this beautiful, flat stretch of San Francisco's waterfront by taking the 22, 30, or 45 Muni buses. Street closures will be in effect for the event, so you may have to disembark a few stops early. Not to worry; that just means you'll get to enjoy a stroll through the Marina neighborhood! To see specific road closures visit escapealcatraztri.com.

Saturday

The San Francisco T100

Starts 6:25 a.m.

On Saturday, June 8, the top professional triathletes in the world will take to the San Francisco Bay for their chance to Escape Alcatraz. Fans are invited to come down to Marina Green early on Saturday morning to watch the 6am dive from the San Francisco Spirit. Athletes will be hitting the shore at Little Marina Green around 6:25 am. Attendees are encouraged to join in the excitement and get a glimpse at the first ever San Francisco T100. 

Sunday

The Swim 

Starts 7:00 a.m.

Watch the world's best age group triathletes emerge from the San Francisco Bay at the Marina Green Beach on the Golden Gate Bridge side of the St. Francis Yacht Club. Cheer them on along Marina Blvd as they make their way to the transition at Marina Green. 

The Bike 

Mounting their bikes at Marina Green, participants will begin their 18-mile ride heading west to Crissy Field. You can cheer on your favorite athlete as they cycle along Marina Blvd. For all you future triathletes, you can bike your way through the Presidio or Golden Gate Park and await riders at the Palace of the Legion of Honor. 

The Run/Finish  

Serving as the bike and run transition as well as the Finish Area, Marina Green is THE best seat in the house for the Escape from Alcatraz Triathlon. Friends and family will be able to support and cheer on athletes as they run along Marina Blvd. They will have the opportunity to watch alongside the finish chute to cheer on their favorite athletes, but please remember, for safety's sake, only athletes are allowed in the finish chute. 

Please note that spectators will not have access to the start boat for the swim start. The start boat is for athletes and staff only.

Loved ones will be able to tune in LIVE to The Jump off the San Francisco Belle by joining the Escape From Alcatraz Triathlon Facebook Live starting Sunday, June 9th at 6:50 AM. 

Who Competes

Professional triathletes, Olympians, and more than 2,000 athletes across all ages from around the world. 

About the Course

On Sunday, June 9, triathletes will take on a challenging feat by engaging in a demanding 1.5-mile swim from Alcatraz Island to the shoreline of Marina Green. They will then face an 18-mile bike ride through the twisting roads of the Presidio and Golden Gate Park, followed by an 8-mile trail run that leads to and from Baker Beach and the notorious Sand Ladder.

About the Alcatraz Fitness Festival & Expo

The Fitness Festival and Expo is free and available to athletes and fans alike, opening 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 8 and 7:00 a.m. Sunday, June 9. You'll have the opportunity to cheer on all the athletes and interact with brands, discover the latest products and services from a variety of industries, and enjoy sponsor activations, food trucks, and a beer garden. The village will close at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, June 9.
