What to Expect When Visiting the Asian Art Museum

Home to one of the most complete and renowned collections of Asian art in the world, spanning multiple cultures across millennia, San Francisco's Asian Art Museum is a unique institution that should be on any culture vulture's must-see list. After careful preparation, the museum is reopening to the public on Oct. 3. Here's everything you need to know about planning your next visit.

Book Your Timed Tickets in Advance

Timed tickets are required for entry, and are quick and easy to reserve. Visitors can stay as long as they like. You can exit and re-enter the museum as needed; just show your ticket at Admissions. Reserve yours now.

Health and Safety Measures

New measures to ensure your health and safety—including frequent cleaning of high-touch areas, plexiglass shields at the admissions desk, hand sanitizer stations throughout the museum, and reduced capacity to enable physical distancing—are all part of the Asian Art Museum's plan to protect its visitors.

With capacity limited to 25% and timed ticketing, you’ll have plenty of room to enjoy the collections and exhibitions. Please keep a minimum of six feet of distance from others during your visit.

All museum bathrooms are open to promote hand-washing. You can pick up a complimentary stylus at the Admissions or Information desk to use for elevator buttons and interactive gallery displays.

A face covering must be worn at all times while you are in the museum.

Amenities Available to Visitors

You can download free self-guided multimedia tours to get the most out of your visit. Free WiFi is available throughout the museum. Docent-led guided tours are unavailable until further notice.

The museum boutique will be open with safety protocols in place for a safe and enjoyable shopping experience. All proceeds help support programming at the Asian Art Museum.

The coat check will be closed until further notice. No luggage, backpacks, packages, etc. will be stored or allowed in the building.

The cafe, Sunday at the Museum, will remain closed until further notice.
