How I See San Francisco: Chef Sharon Nahm

Sharon Nahm is Chef at E&O Asian Kitchen, a Union Square restaurant that is a must for all foodies. Born in Korea and raised in California, Sharon has always had fond memories of food. After being told that she should pursue her passion for food, she enrolled in the California Culinary Academy with no prior formal training. At E&O she has established a farm-to-table ethos that provides diners with the best quality food possible. The unique Asian style menu really puts Chef Sharon in her comfort zone and is one restaurant that should not be missed.  We sat down with Sharon to find out which places in San Francisco whet her palate, and which things any visitors coming for Eat Drink SF should be sure to see and do.

Describe your perfect day in San Francisco.

A perfect day would involve the sun, proximity to water and a picnic.

What should every visitor to San Francisco do at least once? 

Get out to Lands End and walk along the trail.

What’s your favorite place to take a photo or read a book? 

Fort Funston. I love being out there with my beagle!

Where do you indulge your artistic side in San Francisco? 

Farmers markets, like the one at the Ferry Building. My creative side comes through while cooking, so it’s fun to walk around, see and taste what’s available that day. 

What’s your favorite event that happens in San Francisco? 

I really enjoy Eat Drink SF as an annual event; but from a local perspective, Sunday Streets is an event that is great for the city and its residents. One Sunday a month from March to October, a stretch of street(s) in a selected neighborhood shuts down to allow only pedestrians and bicycles. It costs nothing to partake and encourages residents to get out and be active. It’s a nice way to get to know your neighborhood and neighbors.

Where and what would you choose for your last meal in San Francisco? 

My last meal would be fried chicken with all the fixins! And I would choose to have it at Ad Hoc in Yountville (is that close enough to San Francisco?)

Any last final advice for travelers in San Francisco? 

Dress in layers. The average temperature here is in the 60’s and can change from sunny to foggy pretty quickly. Try to make one or two reservations to restaurants ahead of time. Eating out is big here and you may have a long wait if you don’t plan ahead.
