The Summer of Music in San Francisco

The Summer of Love was a social phenomenon that converged on Haight and Ashbury Streets in 1967. More than 100,000 people passed through there that summer, sporting hippie fashion, doling out free hugs (and love) and creating a welcoming atmosphere that has stood the test of time. Many brought their guitars to strum in the streets, creating impromptu jam sessions. That summer nurtured music that will be remembered as part of the summer's lasting influence. In celebration of that iconic summer and its sound, here are some key music events you won't want to miss this summer.

Dead and Company at the Shoreline Amphitheatre (June 3 - 4, 2017)

American Conservatory Theater: “A Night with Janis Joplin” (June 7 - July 2, 2017)
Janis Joplin exploded onto the music scene in 1967 and, almost overnight, became the queen of rock ’n’ roll. A.C.T. invites you to share an evening with the woman and her influences in this hit Broadway musical.
