Witness Giants of Land and Sea at the California Academy of Sciences
Life at the edge of land and sea is a dynamic and ever-changing place - fog rolls in, tectonic plates shift, and rocky coastlines trace the majestic outline of our state's rich natural history. In Giants of Land and Sea, a major new open-ended exhibit at the California Academy of Sciences, discover the giant forces that make Northern California like nowhere else in the world. Giants opens June 15, 2018.
Giants of Land and Sea offers many unique experiences for guests to immerse themselves within:
Step inside an immersive fog room, feel a jolt within an earthquake simulator, and see skeletons and models of marine mammals, including the earth's largest mammals - whales.
Ascend from the forest floor to the top of an ancient coast redwood canopy in an intimate multimedia virtual theater and count the trees' rings to understand how these giants grow. Touch an ancient redwood, at nine feet in diameter.
Learn about San Francisco's famous micro-climates with interactive data visualizations. Experience the sights, sounds, and sensations of walking through a foggy forest in a fog simulation room, and learn why fog occurs in the Bay Area - and why it occurs most heavily in the summer months(!).
Feel the forceful shakes of the Bay Area's biggest quakes in the re-imagined Shake House experience, re-designed to include a deeper look at San Francisco's infamous 1906 earthquake.
Hear from Californians working to sustain the precious and critical ecosystems in their own backyard.
A planetarium, aquarium, and natural history museum all under one living roof, the California Academy of Sciences is conveniently located inside Golden Gate Park. For more information on Giants of Land and Sea, and on the Academy's on-going exhibits and programs, click here.
