The historic bar room of the Sonoma Hotel turned contemporary and sophisticated eatery has become a Sonoma institution, much celebrated by critics and locals alike. the girl & the fig opened its doors in 1997 and its unique take on French country cuisine, along with its casual, inviting atmosphere, and joyous celebration of Sonoma County’s bountiful landscape, earned it quick acclaim.
Years later, the seasonally inspired menu still focuses on locally sourced ingredients, artisanal breads and cheeses, and also includes house-made charcuterie offerings and a unique Rhone Alone wine list. Recently, they’'ve embarked on what’s called "the farm project," a 3 acre biodynamic farm that supplies the girl & the fig, as well as its sister restaurant in Glen Ellen, the fig cafe.
On sunny afternoon on the girl & the fig’s patio, linger over menu items like Pastis-Scented Steamed Mussels & Frites or the Fromage Tower, a selection of local and French cheeses, seasonal fruit, & spiced nuts, accompanied by a flight of local roses.
Proprietor Sondra Bernstein envisions a dining experience whose memory will linger far beyond the meal itself, and her genuine warmth and hospitality emanates throughout the restaurant. Located on the Sonoma square, the girl & the fig is the quintessential Sonoma food and wine experience.
