Tour the USS Pampanito on San Francisco Bay

Just steps from the submarine, the Pampanito’s Visitor Center provides even more insight into life beneath the waves. Interactive exhibits detail the submarine’s inner workings, from the torpedoes and engines to the communications system. Watch videos and hear original crew members describe serving on the submarine and rescuing POWs. Smaller rotating exhibits highlight historical objects from the Pampanito’s extensive collection.

For a deeper dive, take a docent-led tour. These knowledgeable guides only work on select weekends, so book ahead to secure the full experience.

Pop culture enthusiasts will appreciate the submarine’s screen appearances, including “The Winds of War” and the cult comedy “Down Periscope.” You can even see a detailed model used in the award-winning miniseries “War and Remembrance.”

Beyond daily tours, the USS Pampanito regularly holds special events and programs. Throughout the year, explorers of all ages can attend lectures, classes and celebrations, including the annual Lost Boat Ceremony. In October, the Pampanito provides a prime spot to experience San Francisco Fleet Week. Guests can watch the Blue Angels soar over the submarine.
